Many people ask why I devote so much effort to recreate an ancient oriental Jiangzhenxiang fragrance.

This journey began with a serendipitous encounter that reshaped my understanding of fine scents.

Years ago, I visited a spiritual practitioner. As thin wisps of smoke rose gently in his quiet room, a fragrance unfolded, instantly wrapping me in deep tranquility.

I possess a highly sensitive nose for scent and hold exacting standards for fragrance quality. I traveled all the way to Paris, the global capital of perfume, to explore and source countless luxury designer fragrances. I brought home many iconic Western perfumes from renowned houses, testing and comparing them one by one. At one time, I truly believed these celebrated Western creations represented the pinnacle of fine scent.

Everything changed when I first smelled authentic ancient Jiangzhenxiang.

I have also traveled extensively across nearly all Southeast Asian nations, including Indonesia and Thailand. Many local scents there are dominated by bright floral notes. They smell lovely, yet they lean sweet, staying only on the surface. Even many international commercial fragrances follow this same floral-forward path. None carry the deep, grounded woody character unique to this oriental aroma. The difference in quality, depth and dimensionality is remarkable.

I searched widely and bought many commercial Jiangzhenxiang products online, yet none could replicate that rich, authentic aroma. Mass-produced versions often smell thin or artificial, lacking depth and fullness.

That’s when I decided: if I cannot find this scent, I will recreate it myself.

Drawing from my memory of that precious ancient fragrance, we built our formula.
